Retrofit Assessments & Project Design

We can carry out project-specific insulation designs for large and small projects nationwide, whether we are also supplying and installing the products and designs or for use by other installation contractors.

This type of process works well for clients with large portfolios of properties undergoing a deep retrofit such as councils or housing associations. We would carry out an in-depth initial survey of each property type to identify how the proposed measures would interact with each other and advise on the order of works so the insulation elements are installed in a frictionless manner alongside any other planned refurbishment works. We would carry out a Karsten tube test to determine the absorption rate of the external walls and gather the rest of the relevant data to produce the optimal insulation design for each element of the project.

Once the initial insulation designs are produced we will carry out 1D and 2D hygrothermal modelling using WUFI to simulate the movement of moisture and heat through the post-retrofit building structure to assess the long-term risk of interstitial condensation, damp and mould growth. Each individual wall orientation is assessed to determine the risk level and suitability of the proposed design for the specific exposure zone the property is located in.

We also produce thermal bridging calculations for each measure at any potential weak point in the insulation design such as wall junctions and around window reveals to comply with building regulations, as well as U-value calculations and any other project-specific requirements our clients would like additional data to support their retrofit plan.
